Carven Paris Fashion Week SS12

It’s no secret, I love Guillaume Henry for Carven. He’s the fashion industry’s current darling and definitely deserves the kudos — designing sweet, girly, gamine looks that would look perfect on the Alexa Chungs or Olivia Palermos of the world.

Sitting front row at his Paris Fashion Week presentation a few weeks ago were Inès de La Fressange and Isabelle Huppert and although the show took quite a while to start, we have to say well done Monsieur Henry for putting together your first real runway défilé! Hope to see you around our neighborhood very soon! (NB: Yes, we’re neighbors!)

Mrs. Châtelaine brings the catwalk to you! Join front row guests Dita von Teese, Louis-Marie de Castelbajac, Bryanboy, and ballerina Marie-Agnes Gillot, at Alexis Mabille’s gorgeous Spring Summer 2012 collection shown over the weekend during Paris Fashion Week.

Mabille was inspired by the Italian classic movie, “The Gardens of the Finzi Contini,” dressing models as fearless, flirty girls, to uninhibited worldly women. Chic.

Karl Lagerfeld for Hogan

Will this be one of the best parties of Paris Fashion Week again? Karl Lagerfeld presents his Spring Summer 2012 collection for Hogan at a cocktail in a hotel particulier on Friday night. Last season’s party with The Kaiser himself, Lady Amanda Harlech, Natalia Vodianova, Lou Doillon, Elisa Sednaoui, Leigh Lezark, Bruno Mars, M.I.A., Elettra Wiedemann, and Daisy Lowe, all hitting the red carpet, was quite the event! Stay tuned…

A moment with… Didier Ludot for Petit Bateau

On Monday I attended a cocktail for the launch of the Didier Ludot collection for Petit Bateau. Monsieur Ludot is most famous for his vintage boutique, located in the historic Palais Royal, which sells not just vintage but only haute couture vintage. Ludot will famously refuse to sell you a piece if he thinks you will alter a garment, this is real haute couture after all, so naturally it’s a no-no to alter anything.

His collection for Petit Bateau is a collaboration for his La Petite Robe Noire boutique, where he sells a selection of modern dresses all based on vintage inspirations. Obviously this is the place to go to in Paris if you need a black dress.

I interviewed Ludot for a story last year, so couldn’t resist getting his thoughts on this collaboration for Petit Bateau:

Tell us about this project?

It really amused me because Petit Bateau is a historic “house” after all — that’s also the image of La Petite Robe Noire, which is a traditional garment and emblematic of French chic. Petit Bateau is also emblematic of French quality and it’s something that has been around for a long time, so we really had fun with this collaboration, to create dresses that are a little bit sexy, and less sporty.

And also to create something for children for the first time as well…

It’s true, and we absolutely wanted to create dresses that could be worn by the mother as well as her daughter. So when we were designing we made sure that it was something a little girl could wear as well. I loved working on this project, we worked very hard and very quickly on it. We also got out my old fashion cuttings, because we wanted to incorporate certain clin d’oeil [winks] to different couture houses.

And what’s next for you after this?

Ah, you know there are always lots of projects but I can’t talk about anything yet. It’s a surprise!

My favorite dress, it looks so Catherine Deneuve circa Belle du Jour

Can’t resist showing one of Ludot’s own black dresses from his La Petite Robe Noire collection

The delightful packaging for this collaboration.

Pure Parisian chic, wouldn’t you say?

Erdem Spring Summer 2012

I love a Spring Summer collection that actually looks ready for Spring Summer! Meaning something fresh, light, and above all, feminine. Erdem Moralioglu’s Spring Summer 2012 collection, presented on Monday during London Fashion Week, is for me, just pure perfection. I can picture Grace Kelly wearing some of these dresses in Monaco, circa Alfred Hitchcock’s To Catch A Thief. In recent years Erdem has become quite a fashion favorite: Anna Wintour wore a jacket by him at the Nicole Farhi show in London and even Anna Dello Russo tweeted excitedly on Monday morning, “#LFW I’m going to ERDEM Fashion Show!”

In fact, Erdem almost designed my wedding dress! He was one of the first people I contacted when I got engaged, he was available, but he was also working on a few other bride’s dresses and because his schedule was very tight for fittings, I decided in the end to stay with a designer based in Paris. Even though I was over the moon about my dress in the end, I think I will always imagine “what if,” especially when I view a collection like this! ♥♥♥♥ Erdem…
